Kate Middleton apologized to the Irish Guards in an emotional letter for missing a major rehearsal for Trooping the Color on Saturday morning.
“I wanted to write how proud I am of the entire regiment before the colonel’s review and trooping. [Color.] “I appreciate that each of the troops this year put in months of training and dedicated hours to ensure their uniforms and drills are immaculate,” Middleton’s letter read.
Trooping the Color is an annual ceremonial horse guard parade that celebrates King Charles’s official birthday parade in London.
Middleton is an honorary colonel of the Irish Guards, having been appointed by Charles last year.
“It has been a great honor to be your colonel, and I deeply regret not being able to salute at the colonel’s review this year,” the letter continued. “Please pass on my apologies to the entire squadron, though I hope to be able to represent you all very soon.”

Middleton was replaced by Lieutenant-General James Bucknall, KCB, CBE, as his usual inspecting officer in the traditional Colonel’s Review. a spokesperson told NBC.
It is unclear whether he will attend Trooping the Color, but is said to be “considering” an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
The Princess of Wales has largely stayed out of the public eye since revealing her cancer diagnosis to the world in March.
