“While filming a planned stunt sequence on the set of the ‘Gladiator’ sequel, an accident occurred and several crew members suffered life-threatening injuries,” a spokesperson for Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the film, said in a statement. . “The security and full medical services teams were able to act quickly on the site so that the victims received the necessary care immediately. All of them are in stable condition and are receiving ongoing treatment,” he said.

A total of six people were treated, four of whom remain in hospital. All affected crew members were treated for burns, a person with knowledge of the production said. Two other crew members were treated locally and later evacuated. The accident happened when the shoot was about to end. None of the actors were harmed.

The sequel to the 2000 epic stars Oscar nominee Paul Mezcal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Connie Nielsen. Ridley Scott, who directed the first film, returns behind the camera to write the script with David Scarpa.

“Gladiator” was one of the highest-grossing films of its debut year, winning the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe. The sequel is slated to hit theaters on November 22, 2024.
