The iPhone display technology was updated on October 26 with details on how the iPhone’s design could be changed in a different way.
Next September, if the new report is correct, the iPhone will look remarkably different. The iPhone 17 Pro Max’s screen is tipped to have a small cut-out known as the Dynamic Island. And a new report now claims that Apple is considering changing the technology used in the iPhone’s display to match the Apple Watch.

A report from a Korean website Elec After changing the nature of the display on the watch in the latest iteration, Apple Watch Series 10, he says a similar change is being considered and “will be used on the iPhone in the future.”
The latest watch uses LTPO3, which is different from the LTPO type used in earlier watches. “Apple announced on its website that the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) LTPO TFT technology used in the Apple Watch 10 series is LTPO3,” the report reads in a machine translation.
So, just as Apple took the LTPO OLED screen of the Apple Watch Series 4 and used it in the iPhone 13 three years later, the company could make the same change to the iPhone.
It’s not certain that it will arrive in time for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but it’s not impossible. Note that while the Watch technology took three years to transition from the smartwatch to the iPhone, Apple used it for the entire iPhone range. The new technology is likely to make its way to the Pro iPhone as early as 2025. We will see.
As for the new design, it was reported by analyst Jeff Pu, as reported by Joe Rossignol. Macroomers. Adopting something called MetalLens means Apple can compress the front of the screen captured with the front-facing camera and Face ID technology.
You know Dynamic Island, Apple’s term for the screen around the cut-out that shrinks, grows and changes shape to add more information to the home screen, for example, displaying album art when you play music. Or flight information from the smart Flighty app while you’re waiting to board.
Interestingly, Bu claims that this change will only come to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, not the smaller iPhone 17 Pro. It seems surprising, but if done right it breaks with tradition.
Despite differences such as camera capabilities on the back of the iPhone, the Pro and Pro Max have always looked the same. The news that regular iPhone 17 models won’t see this change comes as no surprise.

MacRumor explains it this way: “While a traditional iPhone camera has a curved lens that directs light toward the image sensor, Metalon’s is a thin and flat lens with microscopic patterns etched into it that can focus light more precisely. The new report doubles down on information provided by Pu earlier in the year, which says Apple’s plan is consistent and still heading in the same direction.
Pu Precision has a strong track record, so while I think the introduction of the Pro Max’s design change surprised me, it’s a statement that should be taken seriously.
