Republican presidential candidates have been vying for the endorsement of Gov. Chris Sununu for months.

Now Sununu has made his decision. He is going to endorse Nikki Haley, former ambassador to the United Nations, and he made the endorsement official at a town hall event for Haley in Manchester on Tuesday night.

After declining to run for president, Sununu spent the summer and hit the campaign trail with various candidates he considered best suited to challenge former President Donald Trump in the Republican primary.

Sununu has said he doesn’t think Trump will win next year and wants to switch to the Republican Party.

Since September, Governor Haley has spent more time with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

From what the governor has already said about how he plans to approach this, we’re going to see him really put his popularity and political clout behind his chosen candidate, Haley.

Analysts said Sununu campaigned alongside many of these GOP contenders and used his own observations on the trail to make this choice.

“I don’t think it necessarily has to do with the other candidates. I think it has to do with the fact that he believes he’s going to be a great president, and he’s going to put all of his fame and his skills behind him. He’s going to go out in New Hampshire and convince voters that he’s the right choice. ” said Neil Levesque of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics.

Sununu continues to be one of the most popular governors in the country.

Through three re-election bids, he has demonstrated strong ties to New Hampshire’s swing state, with undeclared voters expected to once again play a major role in this primary.

Sununu had previously said that he was going to see his candidate really campaign and try to start a new era in the GOP to move on from Trump.

Whether that’s what the Republican base wants remains to be seen, but for Haley, who is steadily building momentum in New Hampshire, it could be the fuel she needs for another boost in the polls, essentially putting her in a one-to-one tie. – A rivalry with Trump extended at home.

Trump will be in Durham on Saturday for a campaign event, and it remains to be seen how he will respond to news of Sununu’s endorsement.

Another big question is how Christie will respond. Christie is in New Hampshire, but now the state’s most popular Republican has picked his main challenger for a chunk of the non-Trump Republican vote. This may cause him to lose some support.

However, endorsements have become very hit or miss in modern politics. We know for sure that Sununu is going to consider this.
